Business Spotlight: The Cheesemonger’s Table

Small businesses and the people who own and work in them are the heart of our Edmonds community. To keep our downtown thriving, it’s more critical than ever that we think local first.

In this new series, we will be highlighting independently-owned businesses, and learn more about the folks that make them run!

Meet Maria Montalvo from The Cheesemonger’s Table

What is your favorite part of your business?
The team at the Cheesemonger’s Table loves to bring comforting, tasty food to the Edmonds community. We all care so much about our neighbors and each other, so working together to cook good food for others makes us exceedingly happy. We also like to share what we know about the fantastic array of cheeses available not only internationally but from cheese makers right here at home.

When did you start your business?
Well, Strom first opened Olives Gourmet Foods in 2002 with his partner, Michael Young, because at that time, it was difficult to find a good sandwich or good cheese in the area. Edmonds’ restaurant scene has certainly changed over the years, but we remember when nothing was open late and putting a table on the sidewalk was revolutionary.

Why did you choose Edmonds for your business?
We are lucky enough to live here.

What is unique about your business?
We make sure you have the best housemade sandwich, salad, soup, or cookie that we can give you. We make just about everything from scratch and want you to remember the meal as if it was a little extra encouragement to have a great day.

Why should people do business with you?
Strom, and his wife, Maria, along with our whole team, have always been committed to our community. We believe all people should be welcome in Edmonds and in our business and strive to create an environment to bring people back to Edmonds again and again.

What are you currently doing differently during this time?
At first, we had to reduce hours and, of course, close the dining room. Because of the pandemic, we are still only serving food to-go, but we have made it easier through online ordering at our website and curbside delivery. We hope everyone remains safe and healthy but also well fed.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
The owners of the Cheesemonger’s Table include your 21st LD representative, and a columnist for the Edmonds Beacon.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your business?
Hands down, we have the best team—the best Cheesemonger family. We all look out for each other, help each other, and even sew masks for each other.
