It’s An Edmonds Kind of Fall Refresh
Ahhhh, the cinnamony smells of pumpkin spice. Are you already pureeing sweet gourd meat and doling cozy pastries out around the neighborhood, or are you turning your chair with the sun to catch as many rays as possible? Are you a rare breed who is doing both? We support either and all lifestyle choices here, and as summer fades into fall, we’re thinking a lot about refreshing our style, night-in activities, and spaces, even while the sun is still keeping us warm.
What early Autumn vibes and dog days of summer personalities have in common is we’re all following the weather, and it’s leading us to more overcast days, bright red leaves falling from trees, and the inevitable cozy that comes with it all.
And with a change of seasons comes a change in ourselves: more layers (our PNW love language), more hot lattes, and more homemade, bone-sticking meals.
Check out some of our favorite downtown spots for leaning into that fall energy.
Add a Layer (or Three)
As the weather cools, the rain becomes more frequent, and our desire to curl up with a good book and a steaming cuppa pervades our days, we’re starting to think about how to align ourselves with the seasonal changes. Sound Styles has a gorgeous and cozy selection of fluffy and puffy neutrals to add layers to our clothing. Between Sound Styles, Pear Tree Consignment, MaJe Gallery, Crush Footwear, and all the other great boutiques right downtown, your entire fall wardrobe will be covered.
Plus, if you’re anything like us, with a change in seasons comes an urge to change up your look a little, too. Bellissimo Beauty Bar’s glam squad will help you update your makeup and will even teach you some new tricks to accentuate your best features. If you’re hoping to shave time off of your morning routine while looking fabulous in the school drop-off line (or wherever your fall morning adventures take you), head to Macklash + Brow Bar for lashes and permanent makeup. The Basement Salon will happily talk you through fall trends and update your tresses to match the season, your hair goals, and upcoming autumn activities.
Take Stock of Your Hobbies
Is the thought of hibernation season getting you all sorts of giddy? Spend this time preparing for it! Pop into Edmonds Hobby Shop & Model Machinist Center to see what may pique your building interest. A train, perhaps? Or maybe a rocket? There is no end to the tinkering you can do at this fun shop on 4th Ave. S. You can even submit a special order!
If you enjoy the zen of beading and creating your own jewelry, take a sunny stroll over to Alexander’s and do as many laps around their 25,000 sf of beads as you need to before creating the accessories of your dreams. Or stringing together all the holiday gifts before stockings need to be stuffed. You’ll be impressed with your forethought and you’ll be blissed out from getting into a creative flow. The shop also has ethnic and tribal art and is home to two local artists.
For kids of all ages, Teri’s Toybox offers a wide variety of options for play. From board games to baby dolls, fidget spinners to puddies, gear up the kids for forthcoming indoor fun. And, while there’s a wonderful arts and crafts section at Teri’s, if they (or you) are looking for more, head next door to ARTspot Edmonds, where artists of all ages and stages come to buy supplies from the knowledgable staff, as well as sign up for classes and workshops! Imagine yourself with a warm mug of tea, gazing out of the window into the grey, brooding sky, brush in hand, easel in front of you, and creative flow unlocked. Pretty dreamy, right?
Outfit Your Kitchen and Refresh Your Cozy Spaces
They say that if your space is cluttered, your mind will be, too. That statement is TBD in our lives, but what we do know is that the closer we get to cooler weather, the more we crave heavy blankets and warm drinks. Driftwood Modern will set you up with mid-century art and beautiful accents that will look absolutely irresistible with a warm blanket slung over them or piled nearby. Bountiful Home and Nursery will keep your accessories on point, including notebooks for journaling and cards for writing snail mail to your loved ones; they are taking a well-deserved break, open again Oct 1st. Bench & Board, Crow, HouseWares, and The Wooden Spoon will help you outfit your space with everything from an Edmonds mug (Crow) to the perfect set of ramekins to make homemade crème brûlée (The Wooden Spoon). And, if you’re looking for art that mirrors those warm and cozy feelings you’re inviting back into your world, check out the rotating selection at Aria Studio Gallery.
Let’s Get Cozy
While you may or may not be ready for summer to end, if we did our job well, you may be open to a *little more* of the “pumpkin spice and everything nice” ethos. Show us what you’re loving this fall! Add #edmondsdowntown to your posts on Instagram and Facebook, and we’ll share our favorites to our stories.
