We’re All About Autumn

Get ready for crispy leaves drifting from above you, gourds galore, and the triumphant return of soup season. Autumn is upon us, and—dare we say—we’re ready to add an extra layer before we head out the door? We dare, indeed.

Let’s talk about celebratory events, ways to embrace the chilled air that epitomizes the season, and what to look out for around the downtown Edmonds blocks.

The Wooden Spoon’s 2022 entry in the Scarecrow Festival

Downtown Edmonds Events

Kick off the month with PorchFest (September 9th) and The Edmonds Classic Car & Motorcycle Show (September 10th), covered in detail here. And don’t miss the great deals from 15 participating businesses at the Edmonds Brouhaha sidewalk sale happening September 8-10th.

Then, dig up your dirndl and lederhosen from that pilgrimage you took to the motherland after college and head over to Frances Anderson Center for the Edmonds Rotary Oktoberfest the weekend of September 15-16th.

After the calendar recognizes the official start of autumn, we hope to see your scarecrow submission so we can take to the streets in October to vote for it during The Edmonds Historical Museum’s 11th Annual Scarecrow Festival

Pumpkin Spice Everything

If you got your first PSL on August 24th, you’re more than ready for the autumnal seasonal drink menus at all the downtown coffee shops and to purchase a variety of steep-ready teas from Treasures and Teas. Don’t forget to grab a cheeky mug to sip from next door at Little Bipsy.

Don’t sleep on cozy cocktails from happy hour hot spots like (newcomer from the team behind Daphne’s) Bar Americano, Kelnero, Demetris Woodstone Taverna, or Salt & Iron, either. We have it on good authority there will be a few options sprinkled with cinnamon. Mmmm, bottoms up!

Stock Up On Fall Scents

While you’re out, treat your home to scents that make you feel wrapped up in your favorite oversized sweater. Sniff candles and pick your favorites from places like Bench & Board, KSD Home, FIELD, HouseWares, and The Paper Feather. It doesn’t have to be anything to do with gourds. This is the season for layers of bergamot, vanilla, chai, apples, cedar, and tobacco. Yummy!

Don’t be afraid to try something outside of your comfort zone—or don’t. We’re on the cusp of hibernation zone, after all. Make it yours.

Workhorse Coworking in Downtown EdmondsBack To School—For The Whole Crew

You may have seen that we recently dug into getting the kids ready for back to school. Hey, we’re here to set you up for success, and getting your children back out the door is part of that. Now, it’s your turn.

They’re not the only ones who can put their learning caps back on after a sunny hiatus. You can join in the fun around downtown by attending one of Workhorse Coworking’s free and member-led lunch & learns—yes, even if you’re not a member—or sign up for an art class at Aria Studio Gallery or Cole Gallery and Art Studio

Not sure where to begin? Take yourself on a self-guided tour of them during the Edmonds Art Studio Tour September 16-17th or during the Edmonds Art Walk on September 21st.

Prepare for Layers

If you’ve been enjoying our warm weather by purging your closet, start reloading your wardrobe for chillier days ahead. We have a large handful of wonderful, locally-owned shops and boutiques right downtown ready to outfit the whole family.

Plus, if you’re like us, one of your favorite things to do every fall may be pulling on your new favorite sweater, finding the perfect page-turner from the Edmonds Bookshop, and curling up on the couch with one of those teas you got earlier. We know your cozy time is important, especially after such an activity-heavy summer, so we’ll leave you to it, but if you happen to pull out your phone, tag us to show us how you’re celebrating the changing season.
