We’re Falling for Layers
Many (most?) PNWers thrive in the fall. For us, the weather is just…*chef’s kiss*: Not too hot, not too cold, not yet gray, and not usually raining. Crisp mornings with dewy grass lead to sunny afternoons and vibrant sunsets. Crunchy leaves and light sweaters are our jam early in the fall. And, as far as we’re concerned, summer dressing is stressful because it’s so outside of our cozy, fluffy, full-length-sleeve comfort zone. We were born for layers, you know?
Well, Edmonds, our time is about to arrive again. Layering season is back, baby, and our Downtown Edmonds shops and boutiques are ready to send us strutting into the leaf-strewn streets in style. Whether you’re dressing yourself or your family, we have lots of places for you to check out. And, since your home is an extension of you, we’ve included a bonus section with recommendations of where to add layers to your cozy nest.
So, kick back with a steamy mug to get in the autumn spirit (may we be so bold as to recommend a chai latte?) and keep reading to find out how Downtown Edmonds will get you fitted this fall.
Layers For The Ladies
Represent the town while keeping warm in your new favorite Edmonds sweater from Crow or Edmonds sweatshirt from Rogue. They both have accessories you can add for a beautiful pop, too. Looking for some elevated accessories? Consider investing in a piece from Comstock Jewelers.
And, if you want to put together a capsule you can also pack on your (Rick Steves-planned) European vacation, peruse the racks at Saetia or NC Concept Store.
Pro styling tip from Nataly at NC Concept Store: “Try layering by wearing a corset or crop top over a tee shirt, blouse, or even a hoodie to add drama to your outfit! The trend of wearing a corset or crop top over a blouse is a way to add a fitted feel and shape to an outfit while experimenting with fashion and bending the rules.”
If you try it, tag us and Nataly in your photos so we can see how you’re rocking the trend!
Layers For The Guys
The best place for vintage tees and jackets in town? Camp Vintage, of course! The coolest wardrobes mix vintage with new and high with low, so be sure to spend a good amount of time at the city’s newest men’s shop, Podium, which carries brands like Filson, Wax London, Dehen 1920 (everything from this brand is 100% made in their vertical PDX knitting factory), Red Wing, and more.
Podium is big on shirt jackets—casually called “shackets”—and waxed jackets for fall. Don’t let the guys get away with any excuses about not wanting to spend money, either. Pro tip: They can use your credit to shop the men’s section at Pear Tree Consignment (or you can do it for them).
Layers For The Kiddos
The go-to kids’ shop in Downtown Edmonds, Little Bipsy, also has lots of cute options for mom—plus siblings, and a little bit for dad, too. Get them stocked up on quality, cozy layering basics and then let them pick out a fun keychain and jewels from Teri’s Toybox and The Wishing Stone to amp up their cool kid swag.
Layers For Your Nest
As one does, you may want to add layers to your home while you’re at it. For local art, consider a piece from the newly opened Young Gallery or Aria. To add to your to-be-read stack so you have endless options on those cozy nights in, spend some time at Edmonds Bookshop. Line your nest with layers of blankets, lamps, candles, and all things warm at KSD Home and Soaring Heart.
A house full of music really makes a home, so flip through and set aside a pile of records from Musicology while you’re out. And, if you’re ready to go all in on that remodel you’ve been talking about, assess your options with the kind and knowledgeable team at Reliable Floor Coverings.
Once you’re done, meet us at your coffee shop of choice for a PSL.
