About the Owners
Meet Jami Roberts -Founder CEO & Cosmetology Instructor, Master Esthetician, Barber & Manicurist the daughter of Fern Tull -Founder CFO & Cosmetology Instructor of Hairdressing, together they actively practice & lead Apprenticeship in Washington state. Their combined years of experience is nearly 100 years and counting! Jami’s Love for people first & fashion second gave her a reason to follow her mother’s footsteps for hairdressing, instruction and mentorship. Her first job was in sales at Nordstrom which paid for her other passion of showing horses. Jami was a natural leader the most inspirational & graduated first class at Gene Juarez Academy in 1989. Early in her career she competed and was selected by British Hairdresser Award winner, Irvine Rusk to form the first RUSK design Team in the United States. Together with the RUSK Design team Jami worked on platform for major hair shows, designed hair for seasonal collections & photographic makeup. Jami has been involved with alternative cutting methods that transformed how hair is sculpted regardless of texture. Artistically Jami has been a major influence working with musicians and performance artists creating looks for photo shoots and video. In 1996 the mother-daughter team was honored in New York to participate in a National Haircolorist Specialist Panel. From returning from New York the partnership was formed and a name was selected, joining forces as mother & daughter hairdressers the name MODA was born. The flagship store opened in downtown Edmonds the summer of 1996, soon after MODA & company became the TOP 200 ~ fastest growing salon according to Salon Today Magazine. The MODA hairdressing legacy began in 1977 as a specialized hair color clinic in a tiny 3-person location has grown into a multi generational salon company that has trained many of the best stylists in the Pacific Northwest and greater Seattle area. MODA & Company also known as MODA hair cafe & day spa was the third salon company formed by Mother Daughter duo, together they Founded & operated a chain of award winning children’s salons called “The Original” KIDS KUTS. Our founders first cut was 1966 at a time when women began to shift focus away from structured set looks and began the transition of hair liberation for hair cutting and hand crafted color services. Long before manufacturers Fern learned the chemistry and science behind hair coloring and foiling from a French chemist who invented the first sulfate free shampoo and ammonia free coloring & blonding services. After influencing so many to join the hair industry she continues to consult and advise the best colorists & designers in the pursuit of color - cut perfection. The most recent addition is grand daughter Grace Roberts who’s a graduate of KINGS high School, 1 A State Champion Women’s Soccer Goal Keeper & a graduate from GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY - Arizona with Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Grace has shown she has the unique ability to both honor the past and embrace the future, as she grew up in the salon. Grace has brought her love for aesthetics and hair to a new generation of beauty enthusiasts with a new redesign that enhanced the customer shopping experience and strengthened brand identity. Upon completing her apprenticeship with licensure for Cosmetology Grace will have brought purpose to a career she chose making the third generation in a family owned salon business. It speaks loudly to the passion they all share to make a difference in peoples lives , improving self care & confidence and the art they design to be worn everyday by their community and friends is true joy, and incredibly fun.
